With the purpose of updating stakeholders on current FoF activities and progress, a review workshop was held at Himawari Hotel on June 5th, 2013. Aside from the UBC and HKI team, those present include Cambodian government officials, NGOs, international agencies and other development partners.
Following registration at 8 am, the review workshop was opened by introductory remarks from representatives of HKI, UBC, IDRC and the Cambodian government; Ms. Nancy Haselow (HKI), Dr. Judy McLean (UBC), Dr. Annie Wesley (IDRC), Dr. Sara Ahmed (IDRC), His Excellency (H.E.) Srun Limsong Deputy General, Fisheries Administration (FiA) and H.E. Rath Virak Secretary General, Council of Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD).
Chaired by Dr. Judy McLean (UBC), there were four presentations following this introduction session. These four presentations addressed issues integral to the FoF project such as gender and aquaculture. In between presentations, the floor was opened for questions from the audience.
First, Dr. Tim Green (UBC) presented a comprehensive overview of the FoF project. After a half hour coffee break, Mr. Zaman Talukder (HKI) gave a thorough presentation surrounding updates from the field.
Next, Dr. Hav Viseth from the Cambodian Fisheries Administration (FiA), gave an engaging update on aquaculture. This presentation was followed by a hilarious question and answer period between Dr. Viseth and an attendee, regarding how to differentiate between male and female fish, thus drawing laughs from the audience. Last but not least, Mr. Hou Kroeun (HKI) gave an insightful analysis on the gender aspect of the FoF project which includes gender strategies and goals.
